Heidi's Tips: Japanese
Kanji is Now No Problem

Japanese Newspaper Asahi Shimbun is offering an English news site covering its daily as well as weekly news
and those of Herald Tribune. All you have to do to go to its Japanese homepage is click "JAPANESE" on top.

And more Japanese as well as world news and radio websites

To view Japanese sites on the Internet, Yahoo! Japan gives an instruction on its site,
explaining that "Yahoo!Japan is a site much like Yahoo! but tailor-made for Japanese users.
You need to be able to view Japanese characters through your Web browser
in order to properly view Yahoo! Japan."

If you are not satisfied with just browsing, Microsoft now offers Global IME 5.01
on its site, saying:
"
Now you can input Chinese, Japanese, and Korean text into Microsoft Word 2000 documents, Web forms,
and e-mail messages on any language version of Windows 98, Windows 95, and Windows NT 4.0.
And it's easy. Just launch any language version of Word 2000, Internet Explorer 4.0 or greater,
Outlook Express 4.0 or greater, or Outlook 98 -- then select Global IME from the taskbar,
and you can write the language you choose.

You can download Global IME for Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, or Korean now
and get the required Language Packs at the same time, if you don't already have them."

If you have grown accustomed to the Japanese language but still do not know
how to write Japanese on the computer, here is the procedure.  It also shows
how to register the word like konnichiwa in IME to write it by typing an abbreviation.
