INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION

TECHNICAL COMMITTEE 02:

Draft revision of the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3

Comments of the Japanese National Committee on

Document 02/806/DC, 1996-02-09, ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3

(1) General comment

In the USA, UK, Australia, Canada and India where English

is spoken as the mother tongue, they normally use a point

.as the decimal sign. On the other hand almost all countries

other than the above including Switzerland, Germany, France

andso on cannot be called as the native English-speaking

countries.

We think it's reasonable that such non English-speaking

countries do not have the right to change the culture or

customs of the native English-speaking countries by majority.

To keep the consistency with the above, we also propose to

modify IEC 27-1, clause 1.3.2 (p.25) as follows.

The decimal sign is a point on the line in English version

and a comma in French version.
